SCHOOL FOLK ENSEMBLE ‘BLICHOWIACY’

 

Since 1948 in Agricultural School in Łowicz has existed School Folk Ensemble called ‘Blichowiacy’. Its members have been young people living in the region of the former Principality of Łowicz. Nowadays they are mainly the students of Corporate Secondary Technical Schools NR2 Agricultural Centre of Adult Education in Łowicz. The founder

of the folk ensemble was a teacher, Stanisław Cieślak, working in the school at that time.

        ‘Blichowiacy’ preserve the old tradition, folk songs, music, customs as well as rainbow-like folk costumes of the former Principality of Łowicz  and popularize them all over Europe.

‘Blichowiacy’ give over twenty concerts annually. They have taken part in numerous contests and have been awarded in folk art festivals as well as contests for folk dance groups.

 

The most important achievements of the School Folk Ensemble ‘Blichowiacy’ are presented chronologically:

  • 1949 - ‘Blichowiacy’ partook in the National Contest for Singing Ensembles in Wrocław  and Central Contest of the Association of Polish Youth;

  • 1951 – the members of the ensemble performed in Frankfurt on-the- Oder, Germany;

  • 1952 – ‘Blichowiacy’ performed during the National Harvest Festival in Cracow;

  • 1955 – the ensemble was awarded the first prize in the National Contest for Art Groups in Katowice. The ensemble represented Poland during the World Festival of Youth and Students in Warsaw;

  • 1980 – the ensemble was awarded the first prize ‘Golden Fir’ in  the Art Festival of School Youth Culture ‘Kielce 80’, Poland;

  • 1993 – the ensemble took part in the Folk Art Festival for people of Polish origin in Mericourt, France;

  • 1993 and 1995 – the ensemble was awarded the first prize during the 8th  Biennal Folk Art Festival in Łowicz;

  • 1994 – the ensemble gave two concerts in Austria during the celebration of the anniversary of the siege of Vienna;

  • 1995 – the ensemble performed together with the Grand Orchestra of the Polish Army  to celebrate the anniversary of the liberation of the city  of Breda, Holland;

  • 1995 – ‘Blichowiacy’ performed during the Folk Art Festival in Dortmund, Germany;

  • 1996 – ‘Blichowiacy’ gave concerts for Americans of Polish origin in Ohio, Toledo, Pensylwania and New York;

  • 1998 - School Folk Ensemble was awarded the second prize in the Presentation on Cultural Achievement of Agricultural Schools Youth ‘Lubusko 98’;

  • 2000 – ‘Blichowiacy’ partook in the International Folk Art Festival in Chemille, France;

  • 1998 and 2003 – the ensemble performed for Lithuaniaus of Polish origin in Vilnius and Soleczniki;

  • 2002 – School Folk  Ensemble was awarded the second prize in the National Assembly of Polish Folk Ensembles ‘O Łowicki Pasiak’;

  • 2006 – ‘Blichowiacy’ performed during the Folk Art Festival in Novi Bečej, Serbia, and during the Folk Art Festival ‘Kasztelania’ in Sierpc, Poland, as well as during the ‘Eurofolk’ Art Festival in Malbork, Poland;

  • The folk band was awarded prizes  in the local contests for folk bands in Bedlno, Żychlin, Konstantynów Łódzki and Łowicz;

  • 2007 – School Folk Ensemble ‘Blichowiacy’ was honoured with the Certificate which entitles the ensemble to representing Polish Section of C.I.O.F in Poland and abroad;

  • 2008 – the ensemble was awarded the first prize in the National Assembly of Polish Folk Ensembles ‘O Łowicki Pasiak.’ In 2008 ‘Blichowiacy’ also partook in 45th  International Folk Festival ‘Tydzień Kultury Beskidzkiej’.

 

 

While performing on the stage, School Folk Ensemble ‘Blichowiacy’ is accompanied

by the folk band playing traditional  instruments that are characteristic of the region

of Łowicz.  Katarzyna Polak is the manager and choreographer of the ensemble whereas, Daniel Boczek is a band and music manager.
